ABOUT MICHELLE:

Michelle's art practice explores the joy of colour and mark making. Her works are inspired by her love of the Tasmanian/lutruwita landscape, the colours and depth of layers in the rugged mountains, spectacular coastlines, native forests, sweeping bays, picturesque beaches and sparkling lakes.

Michelle's paintings are often a memory of a landscape or the feeling of a place and her response to it. Works are intuitive, colourful and explore mixed mediums and techniques. She captures the small miracles, celebrating the 'ordinary', by layering and weaving the elements together to reflect the beauty that can be found in a small snapshot of the natural world.

Travels through Tasmania's wild landscapes are a constant inspiration. While some people see 'just green' Michelle notices the smaller details in the types of shrubs, the shape of a leaf, the curve of a grass and how, while sometimes unspectacular on its own, an unassuming shrub becomes beautiful as one scintilla of a whole landscape.

Michelle uses a variety of mediums, usually beginning with acrylic then layering and mark making with ink, pastel and watercolour pencil. "I can't tone down the colour even when I try, it's just me!"
