BIg Old Bottle Tree (43x43cm) Shannon Fay Werthenbach

I’m Shannon Fay Werthenbach, and I am honing my skills as an Acrylic landscape painter here in the sleepy seaside village of Grasstree Beach QLD. I am a self taught Artist and am just beginning to dip my toes in the colourful world of painting.

I picked up a paintbrush after having my two beautiful kids. The demands of motherhood found me craving an artistic outlet to exercise the creative and imaginative side of my brain. 

I work intuitively and let my ideas develop freely on the canvas as I go. My photo library is full of sunrises, sunsets, fluffy cloud formations, storms, rural landscapes and ocean scenes (and my beautiful children ofcourse!).

With a focus on light, shadow and nature, I am deeply inspired by my surroundings and the beauty of the Australian landscape. A balance of accuracy and abstract – I use fine brushwork and attention to detail to give my work a realist approach while maintaining a dreamlike quality by using vivid, ethereal colour palettes and textural impressionistic brushstrokes.

I have called Grasstree Beach home now for the past 8 years and we are very fortunate to overlook the beautiful Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands, which feature heavily in my work. I was born and raised in the small country Town of Stanthorpe and this rural upbringing is also deeply ingrained in my work. You can clearly see the coast to country depictions in my art work.
